The livestock marketing in Carinthia is strongly influenced by the suckler cow husbandry and seasonal fluctuations between supply and demand. The young cattle – coming from suckler cow husbandry – that is marketed, provides the basis for cattle producers in Austria and Italy. Whoever wishes to sell an animal must know that it is most important to produce high quality cattle, preferably belonging to a crossbreeding between Fleckvieh and a meat breed. Since the production has changed over the last few years, the supply of fattenable young cattle peaked off. In Carinthia the intensified livestock farming of heifers (female calves) and the development of fattening farms for cattle facilitates a greater availability of goods and increases the added value.
